Cattleya (Tsair Violacea × longipes) – Technical sheet
Origin and classification
Hybrid name : Cattleya (Tsair Violacea × longipes)
Parents :
Cattleya Tsair Violacea : Primary hybrid often derived from Cattleya violacea, known for its purple to violet flowers and sweet fragrance.
Cattleya longipes : Brazilian species with pale green to yellowish flowers, with long pseudobulbs and a delicate fragrance.

Hybridization goal : Combine the intense color and fragrance of Tsair Violacea with the slender shape and early blooming of Cattleya longipes.
Classification : Orchidaceae family, Epidendroideae subfamily, Laeliinae tribe.
Appearance
Size : Medium to large (30–50 cm in height).
Pseudobulbs : Spindle-shaped and elongated, green or slightly purple (15–25 cm long).
Leaves : Lanceolate, leathery, light green to medium green (15–25 cm long).
Roots : Thick, silvery, adapted to absorb ambient humidity.
Flowers
Shape : Star-shaped flowers, with wide petals and a fringed and slightly wavy lip.
Color :
Violet, purple, or lavender, sometimes with pale green or yellowish nuances (inherited from Cattleya longipes).
The lip can be darker or streaked with contrasting patterns.

Fragrance : Sweetly floral and sugary, more pronounced in the morning.
Flower size : 8–12 cm in diameter.
Blooming period : Spring and autumn, sometimes all year round under optimal conditions.
Bloom duration : 3–4 weeks per flower.
Culture
Temperature :

Day : 20–26°C.
Night : 14–16°C (a day/night difference of 5–8°C favors blooming).
To avoid : Temperatures below 12°C or above 30°C.

Humidity : 60–80% (simulate the humidity of tropical deserts).

Tip : Use a humidifier or a pebble tray in dry interiors.

Light :

Intensity : 3,000–5,000 lux (bright but indirect light).
Ideal source : East or west window, or artificial lighting (horticultural LEDs).
To avoid : Direct sun during the hottest hours.

Watering :

Growth (spring-summer) : Watering every 2–3 days, letting the substrate dry slightly between two water applications.
Rest (autumn-winter) : Reduce to 1–2 times per week.
Method : Soaking (10 min) or watering from above with soft water.

Substrate :

Mix : Highly draining and aerated – fine bark (50%), sphagnum moss (20%), charcoal (15%), perlite (15%).
Repotting : Every 2–3 years, in a slightly tight pot.

Fertilization :

Orchid fertilizer, diluted to half strength, every 2 weeks during the growth period.
Rest : Reduce fertilization in winter.

Tips for a successful culture
To stimulate blooming :
Maintain a marked day/night temperature difference.
Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.

To preserve root health :
Use a highly draining substrate and avoid stagnant water.
Avoid excessive fertilizer, especially during the rest period.

To strengthen vigor :
Fertilize with a balanced fertilizer (20-20-20) during active growth.
Monitor ambient humidity, especially in winter.

Additional remarks
This hybrid is appreciated for its early blooming and its unique colors, mixing the violet tints of Tsair Violacea and the green nuances of Cattleya longipes.
A lot of 15 plants allows for a homogeneous grouped culture, ideal for collectors and lovers of fragrant orchids.
Plants derived from this hybrid can show a high variability in flower color and shape, offering a beautiful diversity within the same lot.
