Technical Sheet – Gongora Memoria Mark Whitten x Jean-François Aguillon (In vitro culture, lot of 15 plants minimum)

  1. Identification and Origin
Genus : Gongora (Orchidaceae, subtribe Stanhopeinae).
Origin : Complex hybrid derived from crosses between Gongora species and hybrids native to Central and South America (Colombia, Ecuador, Peru).
Natural habitat : Epiphytic in humid tropical forests, in shaded and well-ventilated locations.
  2. Appearance
Stems : Long and pendulous, bearing spaced pseudobulbs.
Leaves : Lanceolate, leathery, medium to light green.
Flowers : In pendulous clusters, often fragrant, with varied colors (generally tones of yellow, reddish-brown, or green, depending on the parents).
Blooming period : Mainly in autumn or winter, sometimes in spring depending on growing conditions.
  3. Growing Conditions (for 15 in vitro plants)
    Temperature :
    Day : 20–28°C.
Night : 16–18°C minimum (avoid temperatures below 15°C).
    Day/night difference : A differential of 5–8°C favors blooming.
    Humidity :
Ideal rate : 60–80%. Maintain high ambient humidity, especially during active growth.
    Light :
Intensity : Indirect and filtered light (east or west window, or under a shade cloth in a greenhouse).
To avoid : Direct sun, especially during hot hours, to prevent burns.
    Substrate :
Recommended : Pure sphagnum moss or a mix of fine bark (60%) and sphagnum moss (40%) for good drainage and optimal moisture retention.
Repotting : Every 1 to 2 years, in spring, in hanging baskets or well-draining pots.
    Watering :
During growth : Frequent waterings (every 2–3 days), letting the substrate dry slightly between two applications.
During rest : Reduce waterings, but without letting the substrate dry out completely.
